This past weekend runners came from across the world, that’s right, THE WORLD, to run the Key West Half Marathon. Runners came from France, UK, Canada, Brazil, and across the nation to take part in Florida's famous race. Barbara Wright, event founder, and co-director continues to make the Key West Half Marathon our number 1 pick for half marathons to run in the state of Florida. Even world athlete Mr. Steve Kesh ranked this marathon a 7 out of 50 half marathons to run in his new book, "The Best Half Marathons in the World". This year was the 20th Anniversary of the race and it fell nothing short of its title.

On Sunday, January 14th, 2018 3,500 runners lined up at the starting point, located at the Half Shell Raw Bar where the race originally began 20 years ago. At 7:09am racers began their journey to race through the historic buildings and landmarks of Key West. They raced past the famous Pepe’s down to the southernmost point with live Key West style music all along the way. Runners ended the race with an after party that included an epic concert by Howard Livingston and the Mile Marker 24 Band. They ate, drank and danced celebrating the race’s 20th Anniversary with raffle and all. This year the raffle even included trips to the Caribbean. Awards were given to racers who finished highest in five-year age groups ranging from 9 and under to 75 and over. All runners received an ever so fitting lighthouse medal and long-sleeve multi-colored tech shirts, which were perfect for an unusually cooler weekend for the island. Our staff here at Florida Running and Triathlon would like to congratulate everyone who took part in this year’s half marathon and 5k. An extra congratulations to this year’s top finishers Matt Bell, Gene Reale, and Patrick Edwards.
