5th Annual St. Pete Beach Classic Goes Green
Press Release
December 14, 2007
St. Pete Beach, FL

Motion Sports Management Pioneers Anti-Litter Campaign
Motion Sports Management (MSM) is pleased to announce the 5th Annual St. Pete Beach Classic 10K/5K Run & Walk on January 19, 2008 will be a "Green" event. The St. Pete Beach Classic is presented by Bright House Networks and is expected to draw health and fitness enthusiasts from the metro Tampa Bay area, around the country as well as Canada. MSM is taking measures to help ensure that water bottles, cardboard and other debris generated by the expected 2,000 participants is collected and recycled. They will also offer an opportunity for runners to donate their used running shoes to Recycled Soles, a local group that will then clean them up and pass them along to local groups that clothe the underserved in the Tampa Bay area. "We are going "green" because it's the right thing to do," said Wendy Johnson, president of Motion Sports Management. "We have beautiful new venue with the weekend's activities being held at the Sirata Beach Resort, an outstanding location, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. We will be showcasing the area and giving something back to the community by leaving the area and the beach cleaner than we found it." MSM is partnering with Keep Pinellas Beautiful, Inc., a non- profit, volunteer organization dedicated to promoting litter removal, recycling and prevention education. Keep Pinellas Beautiful will provide recycle bins in strategic locations along the race route, remove all recycling materials and vacuum waster from the street. Water in plastic containers is handed out the runners along the route, and at the post race party, participants enjoy complimentary food with plastic utensils. The effort is aimed at collecting all the plastic and cardboard containers. "We hope to set an example for other organizations that stage events," added Johnson. "This includes races, concerts, and art fairs, any event that generates recyclable material." On Saturday, January 19th, the day starts with the 5K Run & Walk and 10K Competitive Run at 7:00 and 8:00 AM, respectively. The Kids Dash is scheduled for 9:30 AM followed by a one mile Fun Run at 9:45 AM. At 9:00AM. the post race party begins and is free to all participants. Extra wristbands are $5 for adults; $3 for children ages 5-16, free to children 4 & under. You must have a wristband on to enter the post race party hosted by local restaurants & Michelob Ultra, featuring great door prizes and live entertainment. Fantastic giveaways including: beach cruisers; restaurant gift certificates; travel prizes; beach weekends and much more.
